During the two-day stay at the Ubethyane-O-Africa Wildlife Sanctuary, participants will collaborate closely with the owner and manager of the reserve. This sanctuary is home to a diverse array of wildlife, including predators, antelope, and rhinos. Activities include learning about various species, exploring the reserve by game drive vehicle and on foot, and practicing wildlife immobilisation techniques with a darting gun—both on the ground and from a helicopter targeting moving animals.
Participants will gain insights into the challenges of rehabilitating and releasing wild animals, assist with daily operations in the rehabilitation centre, and provide care where needed. The program director and former director of the Centre for Wildlife Management at the University of Pretoria, Prof. Wouter van Hoven, will host the group and deliver talks on wildlife management and conservation.
